Q: What is Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging?

A: Thermography is “a non-invasive diagnostic technique that allows the examiner to visualize and quantify changes in skin surface temperature. An infrared scanning device is used to convert infrared radiation emitted from the skin surface into electrical impulses that are visualized in color on a monitor. This visual image graphically maps the body temperature and is referred to as a thermogram.

Non-contact thermography, thermographic imaging, or medical thermology is the field of thermography that uses infrared images of the human skin to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. Medical thermology is sometimes referred to as medical infrared imaging or tele-thermology and utilizes thermographic cameras.

Restated, medical thermology is the use of infrared (IR) imaging to assess skin temperature as an extension of the clinician’s physical exam to aid in the formation of a medical diagnosis or treatment plan. Medical Thermology does not condone those who purport that “Thermography” can find disease by looking for areas of the body that have abnormal heat or irregular blood flow. IR imaging simply does not have the ability to assess temperature beyond the surface of the skin.”

Q: Is Thermography preventative?

A: It can be! “Inflammation is a precursor to many diseases such as cancer, arthritis, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Heat patterns indicate inflammation, which is a precursor to disease in the body and directly correlates with other diagnostic tests. Early detection of inflammation is critical – you can prevent or intervene in the development process before it turns into disease. Inflammation can also be reduced by dietary changes, supplements, detoxification, stress-reduction, massage, and acupuncture. Measuring inflammation through thermal imaging on a consistent basis can also be very effective at detecting the severity of a medical condition.”

Health & Beauty Updates!

Hello Health Nut Fam!

We are so excited for all the new changes going on around the store! It’s been a minute since we’ve hopped on & done an update for our blog, so here it is!

First off, our beloved Krissy is back from having her baby! She’s brought back so much energy to our store & has been decorating her heart out! Have you been in lately?! The Health & Beauty section has gotten its very own makeover! Krissy has helped so much with making sure our store stays aesthetic, welcoming, & up to date with new products!

One highlighted beauty brand we just welcomed in is a minimalist makeup company, Fat and the Moon! They are small batch made & contain only herbal, simple ingredients! Their goal as a company is to provide handcrafted, clean body care products. For those seeking natural & effective alternatives to chemical-filled products, check them out at https://www.fatandthemoon.com!

  • Nourishing Ingredients & Non-Toxic Messaging

  • Herbalist formulated

  • Minimal, Reusable, & Conscious packaging

  • We are carrying their lip tints, lip stains, highlighters, & an eye coal!

Another exciting new beauty product we are carrying now are Gua Sha stones! These are made out of Rose Quartz which are known to have healing properties. Gua Sha is a traditional skincare technique focused on balancing your energy! It can be used to help lift the face & aid in lymphatic drainage. Some people also use them to boost circulation & relieve muscle tension in the face.

So how do you use a Gua Sha stone? It is best paired with a freshly washed face & a moisturizer or a face oil. This is so your skin will absorb it better from after using your Gua Sha stone! The stone is then used parallel & massaged outward gently throughout your face & down your neck. It can even be used on your scalp & on your chest! If your wanting to see better results from your skincare routine, then adding Gua Sha might be the solution for you!

If you have visited the store lately, you may have noticed all the baskets scattered on the shelves! These are also new additions & a customer favorite! They are African Market Baskets —also known as Bolga baskets. They are handwoven from artisans in Africa. Our customers & staff love using them as an alternative to plastic bags while shopping! Plus they are so earthy & cute! Most importantly, they support African weavers & their families! African Market Baskets are also members of the Fair Trade Federation & the Green America! Their organization stands for:

  • supporting safe & empowering working conditions

  • ensuring the rights of children

  • creating opportunities for economically & socially marginalized producers

Next time you’re visiting Health Nut Nutrition, you’ll have to grab one of these beautiful baskets! To learn more about their mission, visit https://www.africanmarketbaskets.com/.
